Knitwear is the bread and butter of winter and like a hot cup of tea, a cozy bed and a good book, the turtleneck knit is a necessity this time of year for every woman.

There are many variations of the style currently on the market, but despite the garment style’s wide spread popularity this won’t be just a trend piece you’ll never wear again – the turtleneck is timeless. There’s something about them that just screams classic. If you choose a good quality neutral coloured knit, it will not only last the distance, but it will also fast become a wardrobe staple of yours, as it does not date. Depending on the piece, this style can also transcend seasons. For example, cropped and sleeveless garments can be worn in autumn layered under coats and on their own in spring. Some of these styles may even be able to be carried into early summer if the material is light enough.

We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it though. As for this winter, we’re particularly smitten with oversized turtlenecks and boxy shapes. Super chic paired with fitted pants or skinnies and ankle boots. Knit dresses would also be complimented perfectly with a pair of knee-high leather boots. Ribbed knit styles give added texture to an ensemble, which helps to break up monochrome looks. High to low style jumpers also create an eye-catching shape. Our top picks for these styles are the Cooper St Russian Roulette knit (pictured) and the Mossman Winter Blues knit dress, which is now a steal at sale price for $100. Honourable mention also goes out to the Sleeveless Turtleneck by Mink Pink.

Not only are turtlenecks on trend, but they are also super cozy for the cooler months. Their typically relaxed fit and knitted fabric provides maximum comfort and warmth, which is often overlooked in the name of style. No need to compromise look for feel here.

Time to rug up.
